An excellent read! If you find church history boring, you will not with this book by Douglas Bond. Historically accurate. It is written in a novel format but history weaved throughout. You will read about Calvin's schooling, the brutal persecution of Christians in France, Calvin fleeing, meeting the 'Firey Farel' who convinces him to stay in Geneva, the trials he faces there b/c of govenment resistance, Calvin leaving for a spell to Strasbourg, his marriage to a widow, the death of his only child, his return to Geneva where he remained till his death in 1564. A real page turner, great read, I learned a lot and ached when Calvin ached, it was almost like being there.
